Mark 10:32 (KJV) And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,
In this one verse we read of the disciples being Amazed and also Afraid. On their way to Jerusalem. Jesus, we read, went before them, their teacher, their guide and leader. they were amazed; at his readiness to go up to Jerusalem where he had so many powerful enemies exposing himself to greater dangers. This is it, the last Journey, the last Passover and these 12 men were amazed and yet at the same time they were also afraid. Amazed He would go to Jerusalem but they were afraid of what might happen in Jerusalem. Jesus takes these 12 men He had been training and teaching and now He tells them. “And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,” it was back in Mark 8:31 that Jesus took these men aside and taught them of what He must go through.
Mark 8:31 (KJV) And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. Now it’s time and Jesus is not teaching. He's telling of the things that will happen.
Mark 10:33 (KJV) Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
Mark 10:34 (KJV) And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
it’s time to suffer, it’s time to be rejected, it’s time to be spit on, it’s time to be killed. But it’s also time to look toward the future, for I will not stay dead! I will rise from the dead in 3 days; and He did. You, like me, might be amazed that God would save someone like you. I sure am! But the evidence is there and cannot be hidden. Paul said it like this
2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV) Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Look at the Evidence that is in you yourself. Paul wasn’t asking someone else to examine you; he was asking you to examine yourself. Ok let’s look at the evidence.
Evidence #1 Prove your own self.
The plaintiff in a suit, must prove the truth of his declaration.
The prosecutor must prove his charges against the accused.
As you examine yourself as the plaintiff can you Prove the truth of your faith in Jesus Christ? Was there any notable change in your life? Did it last?
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
If =Maybe or maybe not. But if you are then there’s a notable change in your life for all to see.
Evidence #2 Know ye not your own selves
You know who you are.
1 John 5:13 (KJV) These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
So tell me again why you aren’t doing the things you once did?
Romans 12:2 (KJV) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Oh I’m going to Church, I have been Baptized, I have a Bible. Well that’s great but at best that’s weak proof. Paul says look at your life “Examine yourselves” why? “Know ye not your own selves”
Who knows you better than you! No one! Does what you say line up with what you do? Just because we are Amazed doesn’t mean we will never be Afraid. But just remember who was leading the way, Jesus! And today, in your life, Jesus is still leading the way.
