Love is not what you say; love is what you’d do.
We know, it is an interesting statement. The first thing I know is that I don’t know everything. One of my professors made this statement “you don’t have to know everything, all you have to know is to know where to find what you need to know.” There is the problem of knowing. Where to find what you need to know. Plainly stated we don’t know everything. Now you can know how to do something but are not able to do it. The older you get the more you know how but the less you can physically do what you know how to do. I took the time to look how many times the phrase “we know” was in the Bible. In the Old Testament 8 times in the New Testament 44 times. My question is what do we want to know? Now that will be a different range for all of us. Sit with an auto mechanic and talk about cars and your knowledge might be limited. The same will be true with everyone you sit with that doesn’t have your occupation. Now what about our Biblical knowledge? That doesn’t have to be that way. God wants us to all know some things. God wants us to know why He sent a baby into this world. God gave the answer before it ever happened.
Isaiah 9:6 (KJV) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Why was a baby born? “For unto us”
John 3:16 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
A baby comes into this world for us; everyone (whosoever) I like what a man said one night. He said “For God so loved the world” then he said this “who is in the world?” People! You and I. Why did God do that? “For God so loved.” I hear people all the time saying that they love the Lord. Now that may be so but before they loved the Lord the Lord loved them.
1 John 4:19 (KJV) We love him, because he first loved us.
I try to be transparent when I write, I love the Lord but He has always loved me. When my children were born I loved them but they didn’t know what love was. In time they loved me because of my love for them. I know there are those who were not brought up in a loving home and many aren’t sure what real love is. They were beaten physically, mentally abused by harsh and awful words and some sexually abused and suffered from things that are unspeakable. So when they hear the Lord loves them they aren’t sure what that means. Love is more than words. I quit using the word “love” loosely. Like not saying things like I love cherry pie, I love pizza, I love chócate ice cream. I don’t love those things, that is just an expression we use which means we like. Love is a much stronger word. Many may not have ever experienced real love. Love is not made because love can’t be made. How do you know what real love is? The Bible tells us we can know. Love is giving without expecting anything in return. “For God so loved the world, that he gave.” Me and my wife got married and we hardly knew each other so how could we have loved each other? We didn’t. Why did we get married? Great question. My reason was selfish. I was home on leave and she blew me away with her looks and her smile and I knew if I went back she wouldn’t be available when I got out of the Military. I had 3 years left and it looked like a tour to Vietnam might be at hand. I also knew long term relationships don’t work. I talked her into marrying me and we ran off and got married. The next 3 years would be very hard for us. Four months after our marriage Uncle Sam sent me away and I was gone. We made it through that. With only 9 months left we headed to Altus Oklahoma me and her and our 9 month old son. What about love? I can’t say that I loved her because I didn’t really know what love was. Fast forward I got saved and then I began to understand what love was. I remember clearly the moment I knew I loved her. No it wasn’t in some big romantic moment. I was walking toward her and my eyes met her eyes and I knew without doubt I loved her. Today I love her more than I can write and words can tell. The first thing I say to her in the mornings is “I love you” the last words I say to her at night are “I love you.” I tell her many times during the day that I love her. Way more than I love her, our Heavenly Father loves us and when I say us I’m talking about this world. So if you are in this world know that you are loved by God and the proof is that He gave us a baby.
