Listening! RU?

Who will teach you this week? Who will you learn something from this week, that will help you the rest of your life? We can learn from anyone, a small child, a teen, a young person and for sure those that are older than we are; that could even be your parents. No I am not talking about a classroom where you sit and listen to the teacher and instructor teach, but from just common people that you and I will come in contact with this week. But there are some rules if you are going to learn anything. Let me give you an example of what I am talking about. As we have watched the Olympic Games in Van Hover Canada last week and this weekend I got to thinking about all the ones who would have loved to be there and are not. Oh, they tried out maybe even hundreds of times but out of all of those who tried out only a handful made it. What made the difference? One simple thing the ones who made it were open to instruction. They listened to the critical examination of the merits of their performance and the instruction of the coaches and made the changes being asked of them. You see stubbornness, pride and hard-headedness landed many on the bench. But those who were willing to heed instruction went on to chase their Olympic dreams.

Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

Proverbs 1:8
My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Proverbs 2:2
So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

Proverbs 2:3
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

Proverbs 2:4
If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

Most would do well to learn from this wisdom. Too often, we insist on doing things our own way, thinking our own way is right. As a result, we create turmoil for those around us and ourselves. The ugly word for this is pride. Pride thinks of me first. It's the attitude that says, "I'm right, you're wrong." "It's my way or the highway." How many opportunities will we miss just because we are too busy to listen or think we know all there is to know about that subject.
Lets challenge ourselves this week to be open to instruction, remembering that the Scriptures tell us in

Proverbs 16:18
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
So let's listen to advice and accept instruction so that our end will be wise. I feel like it is going to be another wonderful week. One the Lord has made just for the each of us so get ready and learn something good this week; remember you just have to LISTEN!
