Throw in the towel is an English Idioms and Expressions which means to give up, give into, give over or give out. When the day is done and you are given out and you use the term throwing in the towel that is alright but to give up or give over is altogether another thing. When I read statistics like "2 million will began abusing prescription drugs this year." I asked myself why! Or " 10% of America's youth abuse drugs on a regular basis" and "30% of youth under the age of 21 have used alcohol in the last year." Why! Some do it because others entice them to do so, others because of peer pressure and then others to escape the pressures of reality. Whatever the reason is out of all those numbers there are those who will one day just throw in the towel and give up for like a monster the drugs and alcohol have over taken them. I have been at the casket of young and old that have thrown in the towel because of alcohol or drugs and it's not very pleasant. It was in the afternoon when a mother and daughter had just returned from an enjoyable time together. That is when the ex-husband came flying into the drive way and got out of the car and in his right hand there was a pistol. He came through the side door into the kitchen and out into the back yard where the mother and daughter were sitting and enjoying the rest of the afternoon. He walked right up to his ex wife and stuck the pistol to her head and pulled the trigger and in a flash of a second the mother lay dead on the ground and then that young lady saw her dad turn the pistol on himself and then they both were laying on the ground. The reason; who knows for sure but something snapped and he decided to throw in the towel for the both of them. Two lay dead and their daughter will relive that day over and over in her mind in living color. What is the answer you may ask; the answer is what I saw on the front bumper of a 55 Chevrolet that used to drive around our neighborhood where I grew up it simply said "JESUS SAVES." I have seen men and women turn their lives around by giving them to Jesus Christ 20, 30, 40 years of alcohol and drug abuse and never to darken the door of jails and prisons again and it's all because of Jesus. 2Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: (creation) old things are passed away; (old way of living has disappeared) behold, all things are become new. (new way of living has come) The new way of living is something we couldn't do on our own even though we tried many times before. But when we let Jesus in our hearts, everything ; and I do mean everything changes and He is the answer to the Alcoholic, the drug addict, the anger issue in our lives and every other problem we couldn't overcome on our own. Can you identify with that? I can! I am glad of that day and God is letting me help those who were just like me; isn't it great, I love it. And please, please my friend, don't throw in the towel for the answer is JESUS! Just like the song says "There is hope so be strong, there is hope God has sent me here to tell you there is hope; and he knows just what you are going through; what the future holds because Jesus lives there is hope." And I say AMEN!
