Thy Kingdom Come

In Matthew chapter 6 in what we call the Lord's Prayer we read these words Matthew 6:9
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Matthew 6:10
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. I want to talk about the phrase "Thy kingdom come "what's that all about? Notice what was said and what was not said. Thy Kingdom come; not ours, not mine or even their Kingdom comes. In Matthew 6:10
Thy kingdom come the word" Thy" is referring to God; so when we are praying we should be asking God for His kingdom to come. Which helps us understand what Matthew 6:33 is saying But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. So we too must be about our Fathers business. You and I live in a me world. We hear things like; "you deserve it," "you have worked for it and now it can be yours," "now if you join our….you can have everything you have ever dreamed for."" Want a new car! Go pick it out and drive it home today" "you want that….then just whip out the plastic and it's yours." We are living in a day when all we hear is me, me, me, mine, mine, mine, I, I, I, your rights, your things, and your agenda and if we aren't careful we become self centered and all we can see is ourselves. The Lord said when you pray Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: so here is the outline of the way I want you to pray Jesus said. So far the Lord has said nothing about you and I it's all been about HIM! Our Father, Who is in Heaven, Keep your mouth shut and now "Gods Kingdom come" not ours.

I want to go to the book of Esther to help bring this out Biblically for us; for here I think we can identify with what Queen Esther did. We will see an evil man by the name of Haman and another man by name Mordecai who was gutsy and had great words of wisdom for Esther. Then we will see Esther's conviction to save her people. We also have King Xerxes the king of Persia and Haman his right hand man. The sad thing about Haman, if we took the time to read every word written about him we would find nothing good at all said about him. You may be thinking Ok, Ok but what has this to do with "Thy kingdom come" Just wait I am getting there. In Chapter one of Esther you find a big party going on and after seven days all the men are drunk. King Xerxes comes up with this drunken idea and calls for the Queen Vashti to come show all the drunken men how beautiful she is. Get the picture her husband asked her to come in front of a bunch of lustful drunken men to show off her beauty and she says NO! Which cost her the crown but none the less she did that which was right. So the King is now in pursuit of a new Queen and Esther becomes the new Queen; it is an exciting story you'll have to read about it yourself in the book of Esther. In the mean time Haman wants everyone to bow to him but Mordecai refuses which angers Haman to the point that he wants to not only get rid of that Jew Mordecai but the whole Jewish nation. All is going as planned but Mordecai goes to his adopted Daughter and tells her the plan of Haman and asked her to go in front of the King. Esther says I can't do that, you just don't go in front of the King unless the King holds out the golden scepter and it's been 30 days and he hasn't called.

Esther 4:11
All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
Mordecai says you must go in front of the King or our Nation is going to be exterminated. Don't forget about two of the King's eunuchs who are angry and are planning to kill the King and when they find out that you are a Jew they will kill you too. Esther this isn't about you, it's not even about your safety. Stop and think; God may have allowed you to be Queen for such a time as this! If you refuse then God will use someone else.

Esther 4:14
For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
Esther says OK I'll do it and sent a reply back.

Esther 4:15
Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,

Esther 4:16
Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

Esther 4:17
So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.
Well what happened? Esther 5:1
Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.

Esther 5:2
And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.
Translate;" When the King saw Queen Esther standing in the courtyard he said WOW! HUBBA-HUBBA!" Esther 5:3
Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? It shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.
The King noticed something was troubling Esther and told her to tell him and he would give up to half the Kingdom. In short form, she did, she told of Haman's plans to kill all the Jews and since she was Jewish she would be killed too. Then there are the eunuchs who plan to kill him. So sweetheart we are both doomed! So what happened? Haman gets Mordecai's rope. Mordecai gets Haman's job. Esther gets a good night's sleep. The Jews live to see another day. And you and I get a reminder of what happens when you and I approach our Father unselfishly for He does as He has promised But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. It's not about the promotion, the pay raise, the transmission repairs or the tuition that is due; it's not about me, it's not about you but it is all about HIM! Seek ye first!
