Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus born December 22, 244
died December 3,311 he was Roman Emperor from November 20, 284 to May 1, 305. As I read of this man what grabbed my attention is what he did in 303. On February 23, 303, Diocletian ordered that the newly built church at Nicomedia be razed. {1 a
archaic: erase
b: to scrape, cut, or shave off 2: to destroy to the ground: demolish <raze an old building} He demanded that its scriptures be burned, and seized its precious stores for the treasury. The next day, Diocletian's first "Edict {a proclamation having the force of law} against the Christians" was published. The edict ordered the destruction of Christian scriptures and places of worship across the Empire, and prohibited Christians from assembling for worship. The Christian and the Scriptures can be ignored and the God of the universe can be denied. The Churches that are all across our land can be viewed as worthless buildings. But I have noticed that as soon as things go from bad to worse; I mean the doctor tells someone that they may have 6 months to live at best. Then all of a sudden the Christian and the Scriptures and God become very important. Wonder why that is? Could it be that maybe just maybe that those Christians might have something that they don't? Ephesians 2:1
And you hath he quickened, (made alive) who were dead (without hope) in trespasses and sins; (unsuitable life style)
Ephesians 2:2
Wherein in time past (days before now) ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, (devil our enemy) the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
There was something about you that was different from all the others. Maybe you made mention that it was the Lord who changed you; your vocabulary was different, your actions were different, your smile was different and you said it was the Lord, Scriptures and the Church. Like I said on that day the Lord saved me "I have nothing to lose and everything to gain, why not?" and that day my life changed for eternity. The Christian's have been bashed and beaten from the beginning and they are still here. The Scriptures have been burned, scattered, lied about but they are still here. The God that created everything has been proven not to exist, His name used in vain more than numbers can count and yet He still holds out His hand of love today for all who will receive Him regardless of who we are, what we have done or said. That is why we are told "in times past you walked." Don't wait until the end; for the end comes too fast and most times we are not prepared for it no matter which side of the fence we are on! Be Sure!
