Deliver us from evil for we have a hard time doing this; for it is your Kingdom not mine. God wants us to begin and end our prayers thinking on HIM.
Matthew 6:13
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
I am sure we have all went up when we should have stayed down. We have all taken charge when we should have paid more attention and crashed in an embarrassing way for all to see. That's not the way this prayer is closed. It's not the trail we are to look at it's the peak and the more you and I look at the trail the less we see the peak. The Apostle Paul put it like this
Colossians 3:1
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Colossians 3:2
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Colossians 3:3
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Be alert to the things going on around Christ. The Psalmist reminds us to do the same thing
Psalms 34:3
O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. When you and I magnify an object, we enlarge it so that we can understand it. When you and I magnify God we are doing the same thing, we enlarge our awareness of Him so we can understand Him more. Is that not what Eliza Edmunds Hewitt was saying as she wrote the song "More About Jesus?"
1- "More about Jesus I would know, More of His grace to others show; More of His saving fullness see More of His love, who died for me.
2-More about Jesus let me learn, More of His holy will discern; Spirit of God my teacher be, Showing the things of Christ to me.
3- More about Jesus in His Word, Holding communion with my Lord, Hearing His voice in every line, Making each faithful saying mine.
4- More about Jesus on His throne, Riches in glory all His own; More of His kingdom's sure increase; More of His coming Prince of Peace.
Chorus More, more about Jesus, More, more about Jesus; More of His saving fullness see, More of His love, who died for me.
The emphasis is on Him. "For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever "We take our mind off ourselves and set it on God. Don't you just love it when YOU'RE not in Charge; God can do anything He wants. Nothing could be simpler God is In Charge! Let me share with you one of my favorite places in the Bible that shows Jesus in complete control and not you and I; or in this case the disciples. Mark 4:37
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
Great storm of wind, waves coming in the ship so much so that it is now full. Full of what do you think? I would say water and I don't know if you know that a ship full of water is not a good thing; remember the Titanic? One big difference the Titanic didn't have Jesus aboard and this little ship did. You can proclaim your greatness and expose your beauty and sail fine for a while but when the storm comes or the Ice comes you better have more than a false greatness and a dull beauty. This disciple has Jesus on board and here is where the story amazes me. Where is Jesus while all the excitement is going on?
Mark 4:38
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: Where? Doing What? He is in the back of the ship asleep. Yes, for the very storm that made the disciples panic made Jesus drowsy. What put fear in the eyes of the disciples put Jesus to sleep? This ship appeared to be a tomb to the disciples but it had become a cradle to Jesus. How could He sleep in such a storm? Simple, He was in charge of it. And this was just the beginning of what these Disciples would witness. Before He left them they would see fish jumping into the boat, demons dive into pigs, cripples turn into dancers and cadavers turn into living breathing people again. That is to just name a few of what they would witness. Why because He is in Charge! John was in that ship that night and listen to what he has to say later Magnify, enlarge our awareness of Him
1John 4:4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Peter, what did he have to say?
1Peter 3:22
Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. As we finish we need to ask ourselves, it's only right that we declare His authority a declaration God deserves to hear. Maybe praise from our heart that is long overdue!
Psa 7:17
I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.
Psa 9:1
I will praise
thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous
works.
Psa 9:2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.
Psa 21:13
Be thou exalted, LORD, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.
