No More Box

Has something ever gotten you down so much that you were willing to just give up? Roberto Duran started feeling that way in the fifth round and fought unto the eighth round while boxing Sugar Ray Leonard for the welterweight title on November 25, 1980. Finally after two minutes and forty-four seconds into the eighth round, Duran has had enough. Roberto Duran waves his arms and walks away from the fight in the eighth round. "No m á s, no m á s," Duran told the referee. "No more box". Duran maintained that he was sick. After the match, his doctor reported that the fighter had eaten too much too quickly after the weigh-in, and all the food had given him a stomachache. Maybe that's what Paul is teaching young Timothy in
1Timothy 3:6

Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. Paul says not a "novice" which means (One who is new in any business; one unacquainted or unskilled;) There's a lot going on in that verse, one who is unskilled thinking that it really doesn't matter they will just learn as they go. The end of the verse shows the real danger being lifted up….fall in the condemnation of the devil; improper conduct, which will bring reproach to the Lord's work. Could it be like Roberto not thinking that eating too much would cost him the fight? He should have known better but whatever reason he didn't think and the price was costly. We all must watch out for that pride that wants to stick its head up from time to time. Over time we learn to make good decisions and we decide not to quit but find out what went wrong and why we felt that way. We learn from our mistakes and become stronger while learning that Pride is Personal Responsibility In Daily Efforts. Have a great weekend and do your best to stay cool. See you in Church!
