Rattle Snake

A few years ago while on vacation I went to a Church that had taken over an old drive-in movie. I had never seen anything like that so I decided to go the drive-in Church service. I must say it was some experience! As we drove up to where they had sold tickets to see the movie; you were given a bulletin with a prepackaged Lord's Supper. Now to find that spot where you would pull up on that small little hump that would set the front of your car so you could see the screen. No screen here only a high platform where the preacher would soon appear. We put the speaker on the car window so we could hear what was about to happen. The service soon started and before long it was time to take the offering. How would they do this I asked and then I saw some men going from car to car with a bag on a stick; I must say it did make me smile. I did leave with a good illustration; sad to say that after leaving such an unusual place all I would have would be an illustration. That is what I would like to share with you this morning. The preacher told the story of a man who had climbed so far up a mountain that the weather had turned cold and there was snow on the ground. As he walked he saw a rattle snake that had gotten too far up the mountain and needed help to get back down to a warmer climate. The snake asked if this mountain climber would pick him up and take him back down to a warmer climate. The man said, "I would but you would bite me and then I might die." The snake assured him that he wouldn't do such a thing and continued to beg the man to take him to a warmer climate. The man reached down and picked the snake up. The snake thanked the man and off they went toward a warmer climate. After getting the snake to the warmer climate the snake struck and bit that man who had taken him down. The man said to the snake, "You promised me you wouldn't do that." The Rattle Snake said to the man, "You knew who and what I was when you picked me up!" I am afraid we think we can do or try certain things and they will not affect us. We can drink, take drugs, view pornography, have an affair and sneak around and do who knows what and tell ourselves that somehow we will be exempt from any long term affect. We know what we picked up and just like that rattle snake these things too will bite. Read this

Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Proverbs 23:31
Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

Proverbs 23:32
At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

Proverbs 23:33
Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. We are no match for sin and we will lose if we play around with it every time.

John 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: The thief is our enemy, the devil, the evil one, who is out to destroy you and your life.

1Peter 5:8
Be sober,
(Keep your mind clear, and be alert). Be vigilant; (be awake) because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Be careful and don't get caught in his traps for they will devour you and those around you.
