Have you ever been in a situation where you needed to be at a certain place but you didn’t know how to get there? Your friend tells you to just follow them; so off you both go and all is well. Up ahead the light is beginning to change and the one you are following goes under the light while it is yellow making it impossible for you to make it without running a red a light. Maybe you are going on a trip and you began to follow a road map and as long as you follow it you will arrive at your destination with no problem. We don’t follow everyone's directions; what if a stranger came up to you and said follow me what would you say and do? The word FOLLOW means to go, proceed, or come after. The very first time we see the word “follow” in the New Testament is in:
Matthew 4:18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
Matthew 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Jesus saw Peter and his brother Andrew and He said unto them “follow me” and I will make you something you’re not; fishers of men. These men gave up their fishing careers to follow Jesus to learn how to catch men instead of fish. Jesus knew that the value of men was far greater than fish. Today there are men and women who know the value of someone's soul. Jesus said in:
Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? It’s a loss that is far greater than anything else we could lose. We too must be like Peter and his brother Andrew in that we must follow Jesus and learn how to become fishers of men. Will you be at the class this Sunday? Yes Sunday school! When that’s over you must hurry to the second class; you’ll see it in the big room, the sanctuary and there you’ll learn more on how to follow Jesus. Don’t play hooky.
