Here in chapter 14 of Proverbs
we find the word "FOOLISH" mention 5 times. More than any other
chapter in the book of Proverbs. If I were to say that I have made some foolish
choices in life I think everyone who knows me would agree. The word foolish
means ➡ Void of
understanding or sound judgment; weak in intellect; applied to general
character, unwise; imprudent; acting without judgment or discretion in
particular things.⬅
The first time we see the word
"FOOLISH" is in Proverbs 9:6 Forsake
the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. We are told
to forsake the foolish or in other words forsake those who are unwise,
imprudent, acting without judgement or discretion. Then we are told what to do
"go in the way of understanding.” We are not just told to forsake but we
are also told what to do after we forsake.
In chapter 14 we are given 5
things to keep us from being or acting foolish.
#⃣1⃣ it's building
not tearing down
Proverbs 14:1 Every
wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
#⃣2⃣ it's words of protection not prideful talk
Proverbs 14:3 In the
mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve
them.
#⃣3⃣ it's leaving the present when you perceive no knowledge
Proverbs 14:7 Go from
the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of
knowledge.
#⃣4⃣ it's knowing when to depart
not being over confident, angry and dealing with a matter wrongfully
Proverbs 14:17 He that
is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
#⃣5⃣ it's knowing what your wealth's is for the stupidity of fools is
just that stupidity!
Proverbs 14:24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but
the foolishness of fools is folly.
