Hearing

This phrase “hath ears to hear, let him hear” is mentioned in 6-verses by our Lord. Could it be that our Lord wanted to underscore something of importance? Is He saying pay attention now? It sounds strange to tell a person with two good ears to hear; that is what ears are for, hearing.  I am afraid that many times we may hear a sound and not really listen when someone is speaking. I think Pilate was hearing but not listening the day his wife spoke to him.
Matthew 27:19  When he (Pilate) was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
His wife spoke but Pilate didn’t listen to her; he heard a sound but he didn’t really hear her. In the book of John chapter 18 the very Word of Life stood before Pilate in his chamber and said:
John 18:37  Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
Pilate didn’t hear what the Lord said but he did hear what the priest had to say:
Matthew 27:20  But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.  Pilate heard what the people had to say: Matthew 27:25  Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
Pilate was hearing the wrong voices and followed the crowd. He allowed the voices of the people to dominat the voices of conscience and the carpenter.  We can all say that at one time or another we have all followed the wrong voice because we really were not listening to what they really said.  God has made it plain in His word if we are to have strong faith we are going to have to hear.
Romans 10:17  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Now where will you hear the word of God? Down at the Church house, that’s where. So our greatest enemy that wants to wreck our lives will do his best to keep you away from your Bible reading, Praying and going to Church. Why? So you will have a weak faith he will keep you from hearing the Word of God. Just remember you can have as much as you want or as little as you are satisfied with. Weak faith or Strong faith; it will never be strong without hearing. How much have you heard?
