Storms

On yesterday we dealt with being silent before a Holy God today I want to show you how to survive in the storms of life. Watch what happens when the storms come; and they will come.

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

Matthew 7:25
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
We see that the reason the house didn't fall, it was not because of the building material but because of the foundation. Here is what went wrong in Job's life and ours too. We spend too much time watching the waves and looking at the winds; that is not the way out of the storm. Let's put it another way; let's say that you were a sailor and all of a sudden you find yourself in a terrible storm what would you do? The waves are high the winds are blowing the boat back and forth. You don't aim at another boat; that is what we do when we blame others. You sure don't stare at the waves; you set your sights on an object unaffected by the wind and the waves. Look for a light on the shore and head straight for it because the light is unaffected by the storm. That's what we should do ourselves

John 8:12
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Jesus is unaffected and waiting for you, His child to cry out. Matthew 14:24
But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

Matthew 14:25
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

Matthew 14:26
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

Matthew 14:27
But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

Matthew 14:28
And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

Matthew 14:29
And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

Matthew 14:30But
when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
All was well, Peter asked if he could come out there with Jesus and Jesus said come on. Peter was walking on water but then he did something; we do it too, he took His eyes off that which was not affected by the storm and put them on that which was affected by the storm; when he saw the winds he was afraid and started to sink but then quickly he looks back at Jesus and says "Lord save me." What does the Lord do? The next verse tells us. Matthew 14:31
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Peter why did you not trust me? You may be saying, "Yes, Peter why didn't you?" The reason is the same for us we try to fix it ourselves for then we could say "things were bad but then I thought of ….." God doesn't need our help He just needs us to keep our mouth shut and our eyes on Him that because He is unaffected by our storm. Psalms 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
