Blind Spot

A blind spot in a vehicle is an area around the vehicle that cannot be directly observed under existing circumstances. There are also blind spots in life; have you ever heard the saying “I never saw that coming.” You might have thought of a time just then when you didn’t see something coming. It may have been something that someone or a group of people were trying to surprise you with and were successful at it because you never saw it coming. I remember back on our 25th wedding anniversary a surprise get together had been planned without our knowledge. She and I were to meet back at the Church for some reason; I can’t remember what it was now. Anyways as we pulled into the Church parking lot there was not a car in sight. We were to go into the fellowship hall; all was going as planned until someone in the already packed room leaned up against the light switch and the lights came on and went right back off. Now all of a sudden I was suspicious, was there danger ahead? Were we about to walk into something unaware? As we approached the already closed doors all I could think about was what and why and who made those lights come on and off. I had my pistol pulled and was ready to fire…Just kidding. As we opened the door we were blindsided by a bunch of smiling faces that voiced out loudly the word “SURPRISE.” That was a blind spot we enjoyed; but all blind spots are not that enjoyable. In John 10:10 we are told “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:“ Now think for a moment with me a thief is sneaky he steals when no one is around, he kills when he thinks no one is watching and he destroys when there’s no one around or when those around don’t understand what’s going on.

2Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

2Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. There are some very wonderful, very bright people who have been blinded to the greatest need in their life; their need for Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross for them. The reason for the horrific death of God's Son on a Roman cross was that He was dying to pay for our sins so we would never have to, because no one else could have or even claimed to give His life to pay for our sins. He's our only hope of having our sins erased from God's records; He's our only hope of getting into God's heaven. Jesus didn't stay dead, and He blew the doors off His grave on Easter morning! Only He can give you eternal life. Oh no, the devil doesn't want you to see that. He wants you in hell with him forever so he's blinded you. He blinds us with pride. We're too proud to admit we need a Savior. Satan blinds us with religion, so we think that a religion about Jesus will get us to heaven. It won't, it can't. Sometimes the devil blinds us with other Christians who have represented Jesus poorly but Jesus is the issue, not Christians. Satan is saying, "Anything but Jesus. Focus on anything you want except Jesus." His goal: Keep you blinded to Jesus until the day you die, and then his mission is accomplished forever. Forget religions, rituals, Christians, theories, earth-stuff for a moment and think what will it really take to get you into heaven? Being a good person; how good do you have to be and for how long and who do you report to? Being religious? Which religion? Which rituals? Who’s theories? All that is too complicated can I tell you the good news? It’s this

1Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

1Corinthians 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: What was all that for? For you and I

1Corinthians 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. Paul says if all you and I have is hope in Christ in this life we are now living we are miserable. There is much, much more for when this life is over; and it will be one day what hope do you have then? The good news is

John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

2Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. See you in Church Sunday!
