Shepherds

Have you ever stopped to think about the night Jesus was born? There were many great men, wealthy men and scholars in Bethlehem. But that night the angels did not come and sing to any of those but to some shepherds watching their sheep. I can see the shepherds chit- chatting about the day or their family when all of a sudden without warning..wait, I’m getting ahead of myself. These shepherds were not somewhere far off but in the same country watching over their flock by night. Then it happened the angel of the Lord came upon them and the glory of the Lord shone around about them: Wonder if they were frightened? Sure they were for the Bible tells us that the angel said unto them fear not. Have you ever came upon someone you know and say something like this " it’s me don’t be afraid.” Get the picture here are the shepherds watching their sheep in the dark; no street lights for they had not been invented yet! They may have had a fire I don’t know but what we are told is that it was night when the Lord shone around about them. The angel of the Lord came with good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people; I like that word “all” for that is where you and I fit in. We have good news for unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. How shall we know this baby? Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. Then there were with the angels a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men. Then it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them it was dark again. The shepherds said one to another, let us now go even to Bethlehem and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. They came with haste, and they found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. When they had seen it for themselves they made known the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered and the shepherds returned glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. Here are some things I see first; they heard what was being told them. The second; they responded to what they had heard and because they responded they got to see which is the third thing. After seeing they returned to their work place number four. Number five they glorified and praised God for the privilege they were given. Had the shepherds stayed home they would have never had the enjoyment they had that night. I am afraid we stay home and miss the appointments God has just for us so therefore our praise is shallow for we are not hearing nor seeing so therefore we have very little to tell. The solution is get to where God can speak to you in your Bible, Prayer closet, Church House and around good Christian friends. Are you getting the idea? See what the Lord will show and tell you!

The Christmas spirit that goes out with the dried-up Christmas tree is just as worthless
